Job Description

The Undergraduate department of the School of Nursing prepares generalist, baccalaureate nurses for entry into practice and offers baccalaureate degrees for registered nurses already in practice. Students new to nursing may either be first degree, traditional students or second degree, accelerated students. Courses are taught in person and with a variety of digital technologies including synchronous, asynchronous and virtual methods. Courses are provided in multiple locations across the state and faculty coordinate to ensure equitable and consistent student experiences.

The Undergraduate department strives to role model the professional practice environment, incorporating shared governance, evidence-based practice, clinical ladders and the processes of healthcare quality for continuous improvement. Faculty have a primary, or home campus, used for in person courses and determining mileage when traveling to clinical sites. This posting will be used to hire several faculty positions within the Nursing department.

Undergraduate faculty can be:
  • Clinical Instructors - minimal qualification: BSN and enrolled in a MSN or hirer program, to be completed within 3 years of hire
  • Clinical Assistant Professor- minimal qualification: MSN
  • Clinical Associate Professor - minimal qualification: earned doctoral degree in nursing
All faculty will provide direct instruction in assigned courses, according to the course syllabus, learning objectives and department goals. All faculty are expected to provide both didactic and lab/clinical instruction. Effort is made to match faculty expertise with course topics. All faculty complete student evaluations according to department and course standards. All faculty take part as student advisors and as members of department committees.

Clinical Assistant and Associate Professors design, develop and evaluate courses within the curriculum process of the department and University. If assigned, faculty at this level may provide supervision to Clinical Instructors and other support personnel, (ex. Graduate teaching assistants, adjunct faculty, site preceptors, student interns). Department based service, leadership, research and quality improvement opportunities are expected after the first semester. Opportunities for leadership, research and quality improvement at the College and University level are encouraged.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for all levels of faculty:
  • Unencumbered RN license in the US, able to practice in Idaho on start date
  • 1 year practice in any patient care setting

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching
  • Prior leadership in nursing
  • Experience with continuous quality improvement
